Bruce Lee put his personal ‘piece de resistance’, Game of Death, on hold to film Enter the Dragon. Two weeks before Enter the Dragon was released, Bruce Lee shockingly passed away on 16th July 1973.

Bruce did not get a chance to finish his movie Game of Death due to his untimely passing, and Robert Clouse was tasked by Golden Harvest with the job to put together all 12 minutes and 18 seconds of Bruce Lee’s fight scenes into a comprehensible movie script, considering the actual script was only in Bruce’s mind. The first version of Game of Death was released in 1978, incorporating some of the original footage in a largely reshot and rewritten version.

In the late 1990’s, an additional 27 minutes and 42 seconds of footage was discovered in the Golden Harvest vaults, and the movie was re-edited and re-released.

Many years later, these extra 40 minutes of the Game of Death pagoda fight scenes were discovered in the Golden Harvest vaults as well. Golden Harvest did not make any revised version of Game of Death movie, though these fight scenes were repackaged as the centerpiece of 2 documentaries, namely: Bruce Lee: A Warrior’s Journey and its Japanese counterpart, Bruce Lee in Game of Death (released in 2000 and 2001 respectively).
